You can have everything you want! Either that statement made you shake your head or it resonated with you. I assure you there are no guarantees in life. However, here are some steps to get you closer to the life you’ve always wanted.
Know exactly what you want
Take some time today to close yourself away from the outside world. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths. Now, picture yourself in the life you’ve always dreamed of. What do you notice about that life? How was it different from your current life? How does envisioning this life make you feel?
Now take out a piece of paper and start writing the answers to those three questions. Be as specific as possible (i.e. I am a published author, I own a home, I’m married, etc…)
Put in the work
Now that you know what you want make a plan. Write down one small step you can take that will get you moving in the right direction. It doesn’t have to be big. Change is change no matter how small. Small changes over time create massive change.
Here’s an example:
Goal- I want to be a published author
1st Step- Pick a topic you are passionate about and write that down
Once you’ve accomplished your first step then write down another one. This can go on and on until you’ve actually reached your goal. Keep it small and manageable.
Make as many connections as possible
Pick some role models in your life and follow them on social media, read their books, listen to their podcasts. Find people around you that may be a step ahead of you towards your goal and connect with them. Look up Facebook groups or hire a coach. Join a Meet-up group in your area. In this day in age its all about who you know. So get to know some people. Be creative! Hey you never know- your big break could come from the guy in line behind you at the Starbucks.
Finally- ASK FOR IT!
The answer will always be no unless you ask. Get outside of your comfort zone and start shamelessly plugging yourself. People don’t want to be sold but they want to buy. Thats why you have to build rapport and relationships first. If people like you they will want to help you get ahead. But if they don’t know what you want then they can’t help you.
Take these steps. Focus on one day at a time. If these exercises take you a week, so be it! Just get started.
